Wineglass Bay

Freycinet National Park

Tasmania's best tour to the world's best beach

BOOK TOUR

Wineglass Bay Tour

Wineglass Bay hides away in in the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s East Coast and is accessed via one of Australia’s greatest road trips, the Great Eastern Drive. Freycinet National Park is one of Tasmania’s very first National Parks (1916) and is home to dramatic pink granite mountains, secluded bays, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and abundant native animals.

Our Wineglass Bay tour departs from Hobart, heading east then following the Great Eastern Drive north. We’ll travel through the seaside towns of Orford, Triabunna and Swansea as we make our way along the East Coast of Tasmania towards the Freycinet National Park.  We’ll stop briefly along the way to take in some of the local highlights such as Raspins Beach (Orford), Spiky Bridge and The Bark Mill (Swansea).

Lunch will be had at Coles Bay, where you can enjoy your fresh oysters and/or abalone from the Freycinet Marine Farm, or choose from the wide selection of seafood available at the Freycinet Fish and Chip Shop. If seafood isn’t your thing, the Freycinet Bakery Cafe has plenty to offer, or you can visit the Iluka Tavern or simply grab something simple from the Supermarket. Whatever you treat yourself with, be sure to also grab some drinking water because after lunch we go for our walk.

The walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout is one of the Great Short Walks of Tasmania and usually takes us around 45mins to get to the top. The 1.4 km walk is uphill on a rocky but well constructed path with stone steps. As a group, we walk to the Wineglass Bay Lookout where we help each other out to ensure we get the magic shots of Tasmania’s most famous photographed views.  We enjoy the excitement and emotions of the moment and take in the rewarding and world famous view.

From the Lookout you will be given the option to return to the start of the walk with your guide, or for the keen walkers you can choose to spend the rest of your time completing the walk down to Wineglass beach (2hr return).  There you can enjoy your lunch break with the famous white Wineglass Bay Beach sand between your toes, take a short stroll on the beach, take a swim in the stunning clear ocean, explore the rocky shoreline, the choice is yours!

If you choose to travel back with your guide, you will explore more of the Freycinet National Park through a series of short scenic walks.  You’ll visit Honeymoon Bay or Sleepy Bay and Cape Tourville Lookout.

After about 4-5 hours of fun and exploration in the Freycinet National Park we all reunite and jump aboard the bus again to make our way back to Hobart. The drive home is usually spent sharing our experiences and tales with each other and celebrating our amazing day out.  We’ll get you back at your accommodation around 6:30-7:00pm.

What Our Customers Say

We attended 3 day tours during our trip in Australia, the Wineglass Bay Tour was the first and also the BEST.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative, my friend was especially interested in botany, our guide explained a lot to my friend whenever we saw a new plant.

The main attraction of the tour was the Wineglass Bay, however, our tour was a lot more. After the Wineglass Bay Lookout we also visited Honeymoon Bay and Cape Tourville, they were just as magnificent. Both my friend and myself were very happy with the tour, our guide was great, highly recommended!!

It was a wonderful tour. Our tour guide was a local with great knowledge of the area and stamina 🙂 It was a long tour but frequent stops were made to allow us to stretch, get local foods and see lovely beaches like Coles Bay and Honeymoon Bay. As it was very cold, we couldn’t take a dip in any of the beaches, nevertheless they were all breathtaking. The views from the mountains of Wineglass Bay and coastal area were just simply beautiful. I will call this the best day tour of our trip.

Excellent tour! Our guide was great! A local with an untold amount of knowledge on everything! The tour is long but we stopped frequently making it very pleasurable! Stops for food, gifts, or just stretching your legs. Small group travelling together was awesome as well. We were able to meet the people and interact as a group or individually. Saw lots of wildlife and breathtaking views! A must see!!

Amazing! I had such a great day – Our guide was very informative and took us to some beautiful places to take pictures. We also stopped at a lady’s house who rescues injured wildlife so we got to see Pademelons and a baby Kangaroo up close it was amazing. Weather was perfect so went swimming in a beautiful bay.
Would definitely recommend this tour. It was the highlight of my Tasmania trip. 🙂

Excellent day trip with 11 others. The trip provided 4 solid hours in Freycinet National Park. We all went up to the Wineglass Bay Lookout (which was much less challenging than I had expected), with an option to walk down to the beach or be driven to Honeymoon Bay plus Cape Tourville. It’s a time- and costs- efficient trip, given that the drive from Hobart is 200 km and nothing much to admire on the way for the driver. I’m glad that I took the tour instead.

The tour was excellence, fun and challenging.

We have 2 options of hiking either a half way or a long way until the top of mountain. We chose a half way hiking and it’s still lots of fun!

Thank you

The weather was beautiful, ideal for the distance we walked. Our guide was a great story teller, he recommended curried scallop pies which we had. He picked us up on time. The company was a pleasure to be with. I look forward to doing another trip with him.

Geno was the most entertaining and genuinely considerate guide I have come across. His knowledge about Tasmania and especially the East Coast was amazing, I particularly enjoyed his passion for nature, protecting the region and his interest in Tasmanian Aboriginal culture.
