Wineglass Bay

Freycinet National Park

Wineglass Bay Tour

Wineglass Bay hides away in the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s East Coast and is accessed via one of Australia’s greatest road trips, the Great Eastern Drive. Freycinet National Park is one of Tasmania’s very first National Parks (1916) and is home to dramatic pink granite mountains, secluded bays, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and abundant native animals.

Our Wineglass Bay tour departs from Hobart, heading east then following the Great Eastern Drive north. We’ll travel through the seaside towns of Orford, Triabunna and Swansea as we make our way along the East Coast of Tasmania towards the Freycinet National Park.  We’ll stop briefly along the way to take in some of the local highlights such as Raspins Beach (Orford), Spiky Bridge and The Bark Mill (Swansea).

Lunch will be had at Coles Bay, or at the Freycinet Marine Farm, the choice is yours! We recommend enjoying the huge selection of amazing fresh seafood available at the Freycinet Marine Farm. If seafood isn’t your thing, the Freycinet Bakery Cafe or Take Away Shop have plenty to offer, or you can visit the Iluka Tavern or grab something simple from the Supermarket. Whatever you treat yourself with, be sure to also grab some drinking water because after lunch we go for our walk.

The walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout is one of the Great Short Walks of Tasmania and usually takes us around 45mins to get to the top. The 1.4 km walk is uphill on a rocky but well constructed path with stone steps. As a group, we walk to the Wineglass Bay Lookout where we help each other out to ensure we get the magic shots of Tasmania’s most famous photographed views.  We enjoy the excitement and emotions of the moment and take in the rewarding and world famous view.

From the Lookout you will be given the option to return to the start of the walk with your guide, or for the keen walkers you can choose to spend the rest of your time completing the walk down to Wineglass beach (2hr return).  There you can enjoy a well deserved break with the famous white Wineglass Bay Beach sand between your toes, take a short stroll on the beach, take a swim in the stunning clear ocean, explore the rocky shoreline, the choice is yours!

If you choose to travel back with your guide, you will explore more of the Freycinet National Park through a series of short scenic walks.  You’ll visit Honeymoon Bay or Sleepy Bay and Cape Tourville Lookout.

After about 4-5 hours of fun and exploration in the Freycinet National Park we all reunite and jump aboard the bus again to make our way back to Hobart. The drive home is usually spent sharing our experiences and tales with each other and celebrating our amazing day out.  We’ll get you back at your accommodation around 6:30-7:00pm.

What Our Customers Say

  • The best tour ever! Top in a "to-do" list in Hobart.

I am not a big fan of bus tours normally because usually we need to rush to visit touristy places just for taking photos.

But during this tour, we had plenty of time to relax on beaches & to chat with others over coffee/ lunch as well as to visit many amazing viewpoints (lots hidden places too!)

With our friendly guide Geno, I felt like one of my friends was showing me around his favourite places in his hometown :)

Thank you for a wonderful time Geno!

A fantastic tour with many surprises along the way This tour was incredible and it was definitely our favourite day that we spent in Tasmania. It was informative and fun allowing us to see fantastic places on the east coast of Tasmania. I would highly recommend!

  • Most picturesque tour of my life! The Wineglass Bay tour is one of the most picturesque tours that I have done in my life. The tour group was small enough for the participants to enjoy the whole experience. And, Dan was a great guide!

Up there as one of my favourite days in Australia I absolutely loved this tour and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Wineglass Bay and Freycinet National Park! Thank you Geno for a great day

    Rachel Scott Avatar Rachel Scott

This tour was fantastic! The weather was great and Phil, our tour guide was awesome. It was indeed a good decision to go for an organized tour than driving around Freycinet ourselves. Phil made a few surprise stops so we could meet and feed the cute pademelons and discover Friendly Beaches, his favorite beach in Freycinet. Overall, the trip was well-organized. Despite being a very long drive from Hobart, our guide’s commentary about Tassie & Freycinet’s gems made the entire experience fun and insightful. Phil even gave us a fun quiz to culminate our trip. If you’re visiting Tasmania, I highly recommend this company and Phil as a tour guide.

5 star ratingBest tour in Tasmania It was a great trip! We started our trip from Hobart to Wineglass Bay at 7:30, on the way our guide Geno had been telling lots of stories about Tasmania. We even got a chance to feed the pademelon! Geno was really excellent, always keep us excited with our trip. It was sad that we were too tired and picked the short route, but certainly this is still a highly recommended tour to pick!

  • 5 star ratingA memorable day It was a long day from Hobart to Wineglass Bay but so worth it. Dan was a terrific guide, and the scenery was just stunning. Wineglass Bay deserves its reputation. Geno was very responsive via e-mail when I first reached out (months in advance) about dates, and everything came together easily and beautifully. Leave the driving to Geno & Company! A fabulous day all around.

If you're going to see Wineglass Bay this is the only company to book with.

Geno and his crew worked tirelessly to make sure everybody had a wonderful experience from the time he picked you up early in the morning until you were safely returned. Wineglass Bay Tours went out there way to ensure your comfort and they were knowledgeable about the sites along the way. Geno, our courteous driver/guide made our trip a most memorable one!

  • It was just great. We got a lovely view at Wineglass Bay, Honeymoon Bay, Coles Bay and Cape Tourville. I just wanted to stay forever. Our guide Geno told us a lot of facts about Freycinet Nationalpark and the wildlife. I’m really happy I went to Wineglass Bay with Wineglass Bay Day tours! I hardly recommend them.

Thank you so much Geno for that awesome day!!! We saw unexpected, beautiful places and the whole trip to the Wineglass Bay was remarkable. He is very skilled and gave a lot of information with always a smile on his face.

We got picked up in time and the day was well organized! He took care for everyone and it was nice having him as a guide. Everything we saw was just so beautiful... Highly recommended tour!

    Celine Uhlmann Avatar Celine Uhlmann

5 star ratingGreat way to spend a day This is a full day trip: they pick you up at your accommodation (at around 7 am) and drop you off at the same place (at around 6 pm). And it is well worth. Our guide Phil was great! At the start of our journey he showed us a map and told us the itinerary of the trip. Throughout the whole tour, he was always talking about the fun facts and curiosities. And we even had a quiz at the end (with rewards of course!). We made several stops (and Phil always made sure he would talk about the place we were at): Friendly beach, Wineglass bay lookout, Cape Tourville,Honeymoon Bay. We were fortunate to have very good weather on the day.

For the Wineglass Bay lookout you do need comfortable walking shoes (and appropriate clothing) as the 40 minutes walk can get tiring with all the steps you have to climb. (Phil was always making sure the whole group was ok though). We did not go down to the beach and preferred to go to the other places mentioned before.

This is a great trip to do in one day if you're in Hobart!

A fantastic day tour to Wineglass Bay, so much easier on tour than trying to do it by yourself! Phil was a great guide, the weather was good and the swim at Honeymoon Bay was most welcome after the climb up to view Wineglass Bay! Highly recommend this tour, well worth the money.

  • 5 star ratingFabulous day.... Our guide Geno was excellent !! He grew up on Tasmania and definitely loves his job and Tasmania. One of the best tours I've been on !! Very informative about the different animals and history of Tasmania.

Great for all ages, they give you options if you can't do the walks but try because the view are breathtaking.

Wow what a great tour ! We're not usually fans of bus tours ( this was a minibus) but after this tour we are converted. Gino was a fantastic guide showing us many places we would have missed if we had have driven ourselves. His local knowledge of the history of the places we visited made the trip invaluable. Always considering the needs of his guests Gino was always offering the group choices of eating, trekking and photo opportunities. Best way to see Freycinet and surrounds in comfort

  • 5 star ratingPerfect for a daytrip Wineglass bay is 3h30 away from Hobart(the go). If you don t have the time to rent a car to go there, I strongly advise this day tour. Here are a few points why:

    * The guide (Phil for me) was really interacting all the time along the road/walk to teach us the surroundings history, place names and anecdotes around. Simply said, a really good guide.

    * Some surprises along the road (I won t spoil), this is important ! Adding unexpected places to the todo list of the brochure is definitely entertaining !

    * you can see at least the main interesting places nearby wineglass bay.

    * A quizz at the end :)

    * Forget about taking a local bus there, you won t be able to make the round trip

He had a lot of knowledge and gave us loads of information whilst on the bus and off! He didn't rush anyone with the hike up and gave us plenty of time at each spots! We were picked up on time with no waiting which was great! Only a small group as well which was a bonus! A great day all round! Thanks :D

The pickup was easy, tour guide was phenomenal, and we got to see some really incredible stuff. The tour didn’t feel rushed at all, which is always something I fear when going on day tours. Overall it was just awesome.

We had a fantastic day out! Phil, our guide, made sure that everyone had fun, was safe and just generally enjoyed the day. He even took us to a couple of spots which are not on the itinerary to show us some more of the beauty that is the Tasmanian nature.

The Wineglass Bay area is stunning, the climb up to the lookout is well worth the view! We did the longer hike down (and up again) to the beach and certainly didn't regret it.

Definitely recommend Wineglass Bay Tours , everything was well-organised and professional. Top marks for these guys!

  • What a great tour! Our guide Jack was a pleasure and really knowledgeable and friendly. The tour is excellent value for money, we saw a range of stunning locations in Tassie and Wineglass bay was even more beautiful than the photos I'd seen! I enjoyed the commentary on our journey down to wineglass bay and the cute stop to see the Pademelons. The food at the Freycinet marine farm is really good too - definitely get the mussels if you enjoy seafood! All in all a great day, definitely do this tour if you're in Hobart you will love it! :)

5 star ratingA MUST! This was such a worthwhile way to spend a day and was well worth the money!! Our guide was friendly and enthusiastic, and he made the day easy to enjoy:) he even added an extra stop at a beach not on the itinerary when he found our group with a bit extra time! Don’t discredit the short walk options once you reach the top of Wineglass Bay lookout! Given the choice between walking down to the beach or following our guide to two other walks, we followed the guide and found my favorite part of the day! After walking around the lighthouse, we headed for Honeymoon Bay and IT WAS GORGEOUS! By far my favorite site we’ve seen in our short trip to Tasmania. Overall, great trip, great guide, great day. (Disclaimer: the road is quite windy/hilly/narrow/etc at times so if you get car or motion sickness this would be good to know in advance)
