Wineglass Bay

Freycinet National Park

Wineglass Bay Tour

Wineglass Bay hides away in the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s East Coast and is accessed via one of Australia’s greatest road trips, the Great Eastern Drive. Freycinet National Park is one of Tasmania’s very first National Parks (1916) and is home to dramatic pink granite mountains, secluded bays, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and abundant native animals.

Our Wineglass Bay tour departs from Hobart, heading east then following the Great Eastern Drive north. We’ll travel through the seaside towns of Orford, Triabunna and Swansea as we make our way along the East Coast of Tasmania towards the Freycinet National Park.  We’ll stop briefly along the way to take in some of the local highlights such as Raspins Beach (Orford), Spiky Bridge and The Bark Mill (Swansea).

Lunch will be had at Coles Bay, or at the Freycinet Marine Farm, the choice is yours! We recommend enjoying the huge selection of amazing fresh seafood available at the Freycinet Marine Farm. If seafood isn’t your thing, the Freycinet Bakery Cafe or Take Away Shop have plenty to offer, or you can visit the Iluka Tavern or grab something simple from the Supermarket. Whatever you treat yourself with, be sure to also grab some drinking water because after lunch we go for our walk.

The walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout is one of the Great Short Walks of Tasmania and usually takes us around 45mins to get to the top. The 1.4 km walk is uphill on a rocky but well constructed path with stone steps. As a group, we walk to the Wineglass Bay Lookout where we help each other out to ensure we get the magic shots of Tasmania’s most famous photographed views.  We enjoy the excitement and emotions of the moment and take in the rewarding and world famous view.

From the Lookout you will be given the option to return to the start of the walk with your guide, or for the keen walkers you can choose to spend the rest of your time completing the walk down to Wineglass beach (2hr return).  There you can enjoy a well deserved break with the famous white Wineglass Bay Beach sand between your toes, take a short stroll on the beach, take a swim in the stunning clear ocean, explore the rocky shoreline, the choice is yours!

If you choose to travel back with your guide, you will explore more of the Freycinet National Park through a series of short scenic walks.  You’ll visit Honeymoon Bay or Sleepy Bay and Cape Tourville Lookout.

After about 4-5 hours of fun and exploration in the Freycinet National Park we all reunite and jump aboard the bus again to make our way back to Hobart. The drive home is usually spent sharing our experiences and tales with each other and celebrating our amazing day out.  We’ll get you back at your accommodation around 6:30-7:00pm.

What Our Customers Say

  • 5 star ratingEnjoyable experience with nice views and a cool guide Had an enjoyable experience. Travelled with a group of around 10 in the bus and got to see a lot of cool, random things along the way to Freycinet Park. Robb was cool and provided us info on a bunch of random things and allowed us to stop for pictures and food.

Upon arrival at Freycinet, we were shown around the trail and were given the option to go off on our own to the beach which had amazing views.

Would recommend the tour to people interested in seeing Wineglass Bay (specially to those without cars).

    Shahrukh J Avatar Shahrukh J

This tour was fantastic! The weather was great and Phil, our tour guide was awesome. It was indeed a good decision to go for an organized tour than driving around Freycinet ourselves. Phil made a few surprise stops so we could meet and feed the cute pademelons and discover Friendly Beaches, his favorite beach in Freycinet. Overall, the trip was well-organized. Despite being a very long drive from Hobart, our guide’s commentary about Tassie & Freycinet’s gems made the entire experience fun and insightful. Phil even gave us a fun quiz to culminate our trip. If you’re visiting Tasmania, I highly recommend this company and Phil as a tour guide.

I was lucky enough to have Jack as my tour guide yesterday as well as a gorgeous sunny afternoon wi5 incredible views. If like me you are travelling on a budget this is the trio I would recommend to spend the pennies on. It’s well worth the money, you go to some beautiful places my favourites being honeymoon bay and wineglass look out and you learn so much about the national park, wildlife and Hobart in general. You geo in just small groups which I loved, we had just 5 and a range of ages and nationalities made it a really interesting day. Definitely a must do if you are visiting Tasmania.

Thanks Jack, fantastic day out :)

We chose to do the main walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout, and the 2 shorter walks. Such amazing views and the walks weren’t too challenging! Highly recommend if you’ve got a spare day while in Hobart

  • Geno was so helpful and went out of his way to accomodate my need for transport to and from the Freycinet Loop which I completed over 3 days!

I really wanted to do the 3 day Freycinet Loop, but there is very limited public transport. Geno kindly allowed me to do the tour, with the return leg 3 days later and even dropped me off at the airport on the way back!!!

A fantastic day tour to Wineglass Bay, so much easier on tour than trying to do it by yourself! Phil was a great guide, the weather was good and the swim at Honeymoon Bay was most welcome after the climb up to view Wineglass Bay! Highly recommend this tour, well worth the money.

5 star ratingA very enjoyable day It was such a delight to be part of this tour. We had debated whether we should drive ourselves there but being part of the excursion took away the stress of driving and having to find parking in busy car parks in addition, I don’t think we would have learned as much about Freycinet had we done it on our own. The driver went out of his way to make this an enjoyable ride. It conclusion, it was a great adventure with spectacular views. The day packs a lot in!

5 star ratingGreat way to spend a day This is a full day trip: they pick you up at your accommodation (at around 7 am) and drop you off at the same place (at around 6 pm). And it is well worth. Our guide Phil was great! At the start of our journey he showed us a map and told us the itinerary of the trip. Throughout the whole tour, he was always talking about the fun facts and curiosities. And we even had a quiz at the end (with rewards of course!). We made several stops (and Phil always made sure he would talk about the place we were at): Friendly beach, Wineglass bay lookout, Cape Tourville,Honeymoon Bay. We were fortunate to have very good weather on the day.

For the Wineglass Bay lookout you do need comfortable walking shoes (and appropriate clothing) as the 40 minutes walk can get tiring with all the steps you have to climb. (Phil was always making sure the whole group was ok though). We did not go down to the beach and preferred to go to the other places mentioned before.

This is a great trip to do in one day if you're in Hobart!

5 star ratingPerfect for a daytrip Wineglass bay is 3h30 away from Hobart(the go). If you don t have the time to rent a car to go there, I strongly advise this day tour. Here are a few points why:

    * The guide (Phil for me) was really interacting all the time along the road/walk to teach us the surroundings history, place names and anecdotes around. Simply said, a really good guide.

    * Some surprises along the road (I won t spoil), this is important ! Adding unexpected places to the todo list of the brochure is definitely entertaining !

    * you can see at least the main interesting places nearby wineglass bay.

    * A quizz at the end :)

    * Forget about taking a local bus there, you won t be able to make the round trip

The best tour ever! Top in a "to-do" list in Hobart.

I am not a big fan of bus tours normally because usually we need to rush to visit touristy places just for taking photos.

But during this tour, we had plenty of time to relax on beaches & to chat with others over coffee/ lunch as well as to visit many amazing viewpoints (lots hidden places too!)

With our friendly guide Geno, I felt like one of my friends was showing me around his favourite places in his hometown :)

5 star ratingBeautiful Destination It's a long drive from Hobart to the Freycinet Penninsula (2.5 hours each way), but it's worth it. Not only is the destination itself beautiful, but the views as one approaches are also spectacular. The guide is lovely and very knowledgeable about local history and geography, so that adds a lot. The hike to the lookout is uphill but easy (30 minutes); the extension to the beach itself adds a good workout. The beach was extremely windy the day we went - don't know if that's normal but made hanging out there hard. Wish they would add a stop at one of the many vineyards you pass en route!

We had a fantastic day out! Phil, our guide, made sure that everyone had fun, was safe and just generally enjoyed the day. He even took us to a couple of spots which are not on the itinerary to show us some more of the beauty that is the Tasmanian nature.

The Wineglass Bay area is stunning, the climb up to the lookout is well worth the view! We did the longer hike down (and up again) to the beach and certainly didn't regret it.

  • 5 star ratingExcellent Day Out with Phil! It was a thoroughly enjoyable day out at Freycinet National Day Park. There were many stops along the way to pace our journey from Hobart. The drive was very scenic, with photo stops along the beach and lookouts. We chose the “short walk” option for the view at Wineglass Bay. I had a five year old who had no problems with the ascent - he was ahead of me throughout the walk. Phil was very knowledgeable and could clearly explain the history and background behind the origins of what we were viewing. He was extremely patient, paying attention to all the visitors’ needs. The small tour size was good too.

Our guide was friendly and enthusiastic, and he made the day easy to enjoy:) he even added an extra stop at a beach not on the itinerary when he found our group with a bit extra time! Don’t discredit the short walk options once you reach the top of Wineglass Bay lookout! Given the choice between walking down to the beach or following our guide to two other walks, we followed the guide and found my favorite part of the day! After walking around the lighthouse, we headed for Honeymoon Bay and IT WAS GORGEOUS! By far my favorite site we’ve seen in our short trip to Tasmania. Overall, great trip, great guide, great day. We had a lovely time and would definetely recommend this trip to anyone who's interested in doing a nice day Trip.
